Daily Puzzle #028 - Solution

Keep in mind that many puzzles have more than one correct solution.

Spells can ultimately be used in a different order and get the same result.

As long as your solution follows the spell rules, uses all of the given spells, and creates the correct ending word, your solution is correct even if it doesn’t match the printed solution exactly.

End word: One may treat a case, or tamper with it (Double Definition) - DOCTOR

This puzzle is unique because it only has one Banish spell and SEVEN Possess spells. This means most of our letters can be used in the End word once we change them. Also, the only movement spell is one Teleport spell, so all but one of our letters will be in the correct order once changed.

Let’s compare:

PATIENT

DOCTOR

The only letter in common is a T, so we will need to change the other 5 letters using 7 Possess spells. This means that at least 3 of the letters will need to be one letter away from the one we need, and two of them can be 2 letters away. The only letter in PATIENT that does not fit this description is the I, so we can Banish the I (PATENT).

We notice that the E will be changed into a D, and that goes at the beginning, so we will save our Teleport spell for that letter. Let’s go in order from left to right and change the other letters to fit our word:

Change P to O (OATENT), then A to C using two spells: A to B (OBTENT) and B to C (OCTENT). The E becomes the D (OCTDNT), the N becomes an O (OCTDOT), and the last two Possess spells are used to change the final T into an R: T to S (OCTDOS) and S to R (OCTDOR).

Then, we can use our Teleport spell to move the D to the first position in the word and get DOCTOR.
